Leadership Function KEMA's Intelligent Networks and Communications group is seeking a seasoned and experienced professional to lead this practice area. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished executive who brings both the relevant subject matter experience and knowledge, but who also brings to KEMA a documented track record of client relationship development, business development, providing and managing effective and professional consulting results, and providing inspirational thought leadership within an organization. A keen understanding of the utilities transmission and distribution industry is essential to this position in that we look to this individual to be well-networked throughout the energy community. The ideal candidate for this position is a business generator, capable of developing relationships and bringing sound business decisions to his/her organization. This person takes great pride in being able to grow new contacts into trusted advisory relationships. As a team leader this individual has the ability to see beyond the obvious and can focus his/her team on exploiting seams of opportunity within the utilities smart grid sector.
It is crucial that the Service Leader have the demonstrated vision, leadership, drive, and business experience to establish and expand the INC business in the Americas, but also contribute to KEMA's strategic capabilities on a global basis. This role involves the formulation of objectives and strategies, business development, high-value consulting delivery, and contributions to INC's overall P&L.
Location and team
This position will be based in any of KEMA's US offices. Consideration for remote office locations will be afforded. Relocation assistance is available for this position. The ideal candidate should have, at a minimum, ten years of direct experience in a utility or ten years experience in consulting on utility operational issues. Consulting experience should include strategy, process improvement, operational planning, solving complex business issues and delivering client value, in relation to energy delivery systems supporting utility automation and smart grid technologies.
Tasks may include
Working with utilities and energy stakeholders to solve complex business issues through process improvement, technical or strategic planning. Desired experience would be in several of the following areas:
Relevant knowledge of utility automation and smart grid systems and their impact on business strategies and processes
Identifying complex business issues and recommending value-added solutions
Directing business process evaluation and redesign across a wide range of utility business units
Directing clients' strategic planning efforts
Understanding the implication of technology on work force requirements
Integrating business solutions with technology innovation
Support rate case analysis and act as expert witness for utilities in discussions with the Commission
Assertively directing the sales and delivery efforts of teams of up to five or more practice leaders, using inspirational leadership as an example to foster growth and ambitious outcomes
Developing and refining a strategic plan for the INC service line, in coordination with KEMA corporate-wide strategies and business initiatives
Screening, recruiting, and developing professional talent to manage individual practice areas within the INC service line, with a view to maintaining operational effectiveness/efficiency, but also to strategically grow the business in response to market externalities
Developing and maintaining INC succession plans to foster the next generation of KEMA leadership, as well as provide personal mentorship to junior members of the team
Ensuring that all INC consulting engagements and professionals meet the guiding principles as established by KEMA
Delivering strong knowledge of industry trends in utility operations, including advances in technology and the resulting impact on managing business
Providing clear and concise business writing in various formats including presentation slides, business plans, white papers or other textual material for mid-level and executive client delivery
Developing, outlining, writing, and delivering high-quality and successful business development proposals
Demonstrating confident and comfortable relations in senior executive utility interactions in relationship-building and business development settings
Developing and delivering publications in trade journals, presentations at conferences, and articulating points of view as an expert witness
What we're asking
An advanced business degree from an accredited institution (MBA preferred)
A minimum of ten years experience in working for an electric, water or gas utility and/or a demonstrated track record in working as a management consultant to utility clients
Must live within close proximity to a major North American airport, and be willing to travel on a regular basis within the Americas
Willingness to travel on a consistent and frequent basis within the Americas, as well as periodic travel to other continents within KEMA's business domain
Public speaking expertise, including ability to handle complex discussions with senior executives
Ability to leverage existing industry contacts to secure new opportunities on behalf of KEMA - an individual who truly likes the notion of bringing new value to existing relationships
Strong ethical character that operates in a highly-visible, diverse, and collegial environment and holds their own team equally accountable
Highly organized, responsive, and decisive, with the effective ability to be efficient at using available resources to accomplish objectives, but also responds well to dynamic and complex situations
This is a U.S.-based position; candidates must be fully authorized to work in the U.S.
