Financial Analyst III

The Financial Analyst III performs financial analyses (e.g., client level profitability, variance comments, trend analysis, financial statement accuracy, asset expenditures, etc.) across various product and sector groups. He/She oversees the preparation of reports, graphs, charts, and written financial summaries. This position reviews general finance and accounting processes including researching, analyzing, creating, and processing monthly journal entries. The Financial Analyst III supports a defined operational group and communicates with various management levels. He/She acts as the key Finance and Accounting liaison with the Operations team in areas of financial training, general financial statement support, client pricing efforts, General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls (e.g., revenue recovery, Accounts Receivables [AR], audits, billing adjustments, etc.), forecasting, and annual budgeting. He/She oversees specialists and other supervisors within the department. The Financial Analyst III reports to the supervisors or managers.

Job Duties

  • Reviews the creation of financial reports for internal and external customers to provide information on performance.
  • Reviews monthly reports (e.g., accounts payable spend, open AR balance, Construction in Progress aging, etc.).
  • Reviews responses to corporate and Shared Services information analysis requests to assist them in monitoring the business (e.g., year over year analysis, new process changes, etc.).
  • Oversees the production of financial reports to explain variances between business plan and forecast, actual results, and trends.
  • Participates in Business Planning and Forecasting
  • Develops and maintains planning tools (e.g., Khalix, etc.) and templates to utilize in planning and forecasting.
  • Collects operating expenses from various support functions to ensure accurate financial planning.
  • Conducts variance analysis of plans to identify areas where targeted projections are not being obtained.
  • Updates monthly and quarterly forecasts to ensure accurate forecasts are maintained.
  • Provides training on planning and forecasting tools and methodologies to provide education to the Operations team.
  • Oversees Internal Financial and Accounting Controls
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on proper controls and adherence (e.g., standard month-end entries according to GAAP, etc.) to ensure proper financial and accounting standards are utilized.
  • Identifies opportunities for revenue recovery and conducts audits to ensure adherence to contract metrics.
  • Supports the development and documentation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency in financial processes (e.g., sales tax, client rebates, proper general ledger coding, etc.).
  • Conducts Financial and Profitability Analysis
  • Conducts financial ratio and metric analysis to track profitability.
  • Performs variance analysis (i.e., actual versus plan and actual versus prior period) to provide data for evaluating business results.
  • Analyzes sector and product trends for customer profitability and financial returns to identify areas for improving performance.
  • Analyzes client profit and loss to aid in new pricing solutions.
  • Analyzes natural account balances (e.g., labor, occupancy, supply expenses, etc.) to identify areas for cost improvement.
  • Provides Training and Directs Business Research
  • Develops and conducts systems training to ensure users effectively utilize tools provided.
  • Uses internal systems tools (e.g., Oracle, Brio, etc.) and external systems tools (e.g., internet, government sites, banks sites, etc.) to conduct detailed analysis of client profitability.
  • Serves as a trainer on financial concepts and accounting processes for the Operations team to improve profitability.
  • Contacts internal customers to gather information and resolve issues.
  • Supervises and Develops Others
  • Determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans.
  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.

  • Conducts Research, gathers internal and external information such as, similar cases, facts, opinions, trends, needs, fit, impact, benefits, best practices, barriers, and risks using informal and formal methods. Summarizes findings using several avenues of communication. 
  • Generates Reports, accesses appropriate databases, writes information queries, and produces customized reports. Interprets and clarifies data, as necessary. 
  • Manages Details, plans and completes work with thoroughness, giving attention to specific information and individual details, conditions, necessary record keeping, and elements of that work. 
  • Synthesizes Information, combines and integrates information in order to make sound conclusions, recommendations, or decisions. 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
  • Must be currently in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself there
  • Must be willing to travel if required
  • Bachelors degree is required
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Admin or Finance is preferred
  • Experience working in Warehousing, Logistics, and Transportation industry is preferred
  • Industry-related financial experience including supervising staff is preferred.
